Winning
Lottery Stops Man From Going Blind
NEW
ZEALAND - Winning the lottery has stopped a New Zealand man going
blind.
The retired shoe
repairer booked into a clinic to have his cataracts removed after winning
the equivalent of more than £300,000.
Cyril Hutchings
says his win which allowed him to pay for the £1,171 operation
was a godsend.
"I wouldn't
have been able to afford the operation if I hadn't won," the 77-year-old
from Wellington told Sunday News.
"I'd be on
the waiting list for a long time. I'd have had to wait years and years
and by that time I could have died."
Widower Cyril split
his winnings of NZ$1,150,000 with his "lady friend" Dot, 76.
He also gave NZ$300,000 (£87,000) to his son and daughter.
He has bought a
new blue Toyota Echo to match Dot's new gold one and has paid for a
trip for the two of them to Brisbane.
