Mayor
of Moscow Invents Beehive for Colder Climates
MOSCOW - The
mayor of Moscow has invented a new type of beehive for colder climates.
Yury Luzhkov, a
keen beekeeper, has applied for a patent for his new moulded plastic
round hive.
It has a ventilation
system to cope with swift temperature changes and is designed to last
for up to 20 years.
But there are claims
his hive is a copy or, at best, based on a 17th-century design, according
to the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.
Arnold Butov, president
of the Russian Beekeepers Union, defended Mr Luzhkov and said the criticism
is nonsense, The Moscow Times reports.
