Woman
Flies 100 miles to Oil Rig to Propose
GERMANY - A
German woman flew to an oil rig 100 miles from Aberdeen to propose to
her boyfriend.
Petra Thies won
a radio competition which helped listeners make their dreams come true.
Although the Chevron
Alba platform is usually off-limits to the public, the trip was made
possible by Chevron and Paul Goodrich's employers. Paul said "yes"
when Petra popped the question and the couple will marry in Denmark
next year.
Paul, who works
for KCA, a drilling contractor, said: "I was gobsmacked when Petra
arrived. She was the last person I expected to see in the middle of
the North Sea. I think I was more surprised to see her than I was by
her proposal, which was brilliant.
"I knew Petra
wanted to visit the rig but I also knew it was impossible. So when she
turned up I was absolutely speechless."
Paul, 39, from Fife,
met teacher Petra five years ago on a motorbike tour of Europe. They
have been living together near Frankfurt in her native Germany for three
years, says the Daily Record.
Petra, 36, said:
"I was pretty sure he would say yes, but I feel a lot better now
it's all over. I haven't slept properly for days. I found it very difficult
to keep it all a secret, especially from Paul."
