Dutch recycling company is encouraging parents recycle diapers
A Dutch recycling company is encouraging parents to take their babies'
used nappies to nappy banks - based on the idea of bottle banks.
The Knowaste company in Arnhem is starting its pilot project in September.
Parents can collect the nappies in special bags that can be sealed
to stop the smell escaping.
The company is installing nappy banks in public places where parents
can deposit the bags.
Parents are being asked to collect around 40 nappies in each bag.
Arnhem will be the first European city were parents can return used
nappies.
Knowaste has developed a technique that pulps the nappies.
Knowaste sales manager Nico Willems says his company has experience
of the industry - it already collects the incontinence pads from 40%
of the country's hospitals and old people's homes.
