Cyclist Sets Speed Record in Nevada
NEVADA -
A Canadian cyclist has set a new world speed record in a competition
in Nevada.
Sam Whittingham beat his own record by going just over
77 miles per hour.
Fellow contender, British Olympic cyclist Jason Queally,
has so far only managed a wind-assisted speed of just over 61 miles
per hour.
He must complete two runs at a new high speed before
the end of the competition this weekend to break the record.
His team, named after the Blueyonder bike he is riding,
hope its aerodynamic shell will increase Queally's top speed to more
than 80 miles per hour.
After his second run on the bike he said: "The
Blueyonder Challenger was great tonight. It ran smooth, true and straight,
which has given me another step of confidence.
"There should be more to come, but I am steadily
putting on the power and we will have to see where we can get to tomorrow."
