82 Year Old Stroke Victim Rescues Great Granddaughter From House Fire
An 82-year-old stroke victim with severe paralysis has rescued his
great-granddaughter from a fire in his house.
Lester Marshall, from Palm Beach, Florida, walks with a zimmer frame
and his left side is paralysed.
He crawled up and down a flight of stairs and braved the flames to
rescue five-year-old Ashley, who was asleep. By the time Mr Marshall
made it outside, the tops of his leather shoes had burned off.
He said: "All I knew was to get the baby. I didn't think about
anything else. It's been years since I did something like that.
Stephanie Murray, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross, which is
assisting the now-homeless family, said: "It's amazing what the
human body can do when it has to."
No one was hurt in the blaze, which began when a fan's blades got stuck
and the motor overheated.
Marshall and eight other family members who lived in the four-bedroom
apartment are looking for a new place to live. They have moved in temporarily
with his daughter, Rosa.
"He found energy from I don't know where," Rosa said. "His
wife is very proud of him," she told the Palm Beach Post.
