| An American grandmother took her
first flying lesson for her 100th birthday.
Irene Hilley took control of the light aircraft
as a birthday gift from a friend who was a former marine pilot.
She guided the plane for a half-hour flight
over her native Augusta, Georgia, as a crowd of relatives cheered
her on.
Mrs. Hilley needed some assistance climbing
into the Cessna 172 Skyhawk next to flight instructor Craig
Cornell.
But once she was securely buckled, the centenarian
took to the controls alongside the pilot, reports The Augusta
Chronicle.
The flight was a gift from family friend Bill
Lawless who she "splits a can of beer with" when he
visits her house.
