A great great grandmother has celebrated her first birthday with
electricity at the age of 101.
Until Elizabeth Cockburn moved to sheltered housing from her remote
Aberdeenshire cottage, she had used only Calor gas.
Now she is getting used to modern conveniences after being a stranger
to television, phones, fridges and hair dryers.
Of electricity, Elizabeth said: "There's nothing to it. It's
rare being able to get out of bed and go straight to the toilet
instead of having to go outside."
She is now getting used to the joys of remote controls, kettles
and lights at the house in Cuminsetown, Aberdeenshire, reports The
Daily Record.
Grandson Norman Cockburn, 56, said: "She is in her element
and is coping extremely well. We were surprised how quickly she
settled in. We didn't think she would ever move but last winter
she was cut off by snow for three weeks and we knew she couldn't
go through that again. Now her only regret is that she didn't do
it years ago as she appreciates the little comforts. TV is probably
her favourite."
Elizabeth has seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and five
great great grandchildren.
