A man from Southern
India claims he can sniff out water in the ground.
It's reported
Venkat Raj Bhat has helped detect more than 5,000 ground water sources.
The 60-year-old
says he can trace it by smelling the soil.
Newspaper Patrike
reports he digs an inch into the ground with a poker and detects
the presence of water by smelling the dug up soil.
Mr Baht also
claims to be able to find water with the help of a black stone.
By placing the
stone to his eye, he says he can see lines of various colours in
the soil and blue lines indicate the presence of water.
Businessman
Mahabala Acharya said: "There has not been a single instance
where his assessment had been proved wrong."
The man's reputation
has led people from the neighbouring state of Kerala, where wells
are reported to have gone dry overnight, to approach him for help.
Mr Bhat said:
"Water is life. I feel happy that I am able to find it for
people."
