Bronze Age Pompeii found

Italian archaeologists have found what might be the best preserved Bronze Age village in the world.

The settlement was buried during an eruption by Mount Vesuvius centuries before it wiped out Pompeii.

The find at Nola has been described as sensational by experts.

The mud which flowed from the volcano filled and surrounded all the buildings creating a plaster cast mould of them.

The Daily Telegraph reports that among the items found were bones of hams, a decorated hat and even a kiln in which a pot was being fired when disaster struck.

Professor Stefano De Caro, the chief archaeologist, said: "In other words, we found life in progress."
