A hovercraft
scooter that floats above the ground at speeds of 15mph has been
launched in the US.
The Air Float-er
was unveiled at an international leisure conference in Florida.
It is just over
6ft in diameter, hovers an inch above the ground and will run for
an hour on a tank of unleaded fuel.
Robert Doornick,
head of Alura Intelligent Products in New York, said there had been
an increasing interest in electric and gas-powered recreational
scooters.
The RAC website
reports he said: "The Air Float-er is a single-rider standing
hovercraft scooter which carries you on a cushion of air.
"This futuristic
device has the appearance of a transporter right out of the future,
and, while it is not street-legal, it is guaranteed to become a
very popular form of recreational transportation."
Mr Doornick
said the fibreglass and aluminium machine was easy to ride. "You
just start it up, hop on, watch the vehicle rise up on a trapped
cushion of air, then adjust the throttle and off you go," he
said.
You can turn
the machine by adjusting your balance and changing weight from one
side to the other.
