Bakers in India have created a cake replica of the World Trade
Centre in memory of the victims of September 11.
The Nilgiris group in Bangalore say they want to send a message
of peace and love to the citizens of the world through their baking
skills.
The cake version of the Twin Towers is 24 feet high and 30 inches
thick. It cost the equivalent of £1,391 to make.
Managing director C Ramachandran told Rediff.com: "We have
used about 800 kilograms of sugar, 80 kilograms of edible gelatin
fluid, and a kilogram of preservatives to build this replica.
"It involved 500 man hours, with 50 people working day and
night over the last fortnight."
He added: "The WTC towers symbolised courage and hope in a
strife-torn world. We want to bring back the same kind of inspiration
with its replica."
It will be displayed at a cake exhibition during the Christmas
and New Year holidays.
Nilgiris has made sugar and chocolate models of other famous structures
like the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, and the Titanic.
