Volunteers For Trip to Mars Wanted
simulated Mars trip planned by The Mars Society;
The Mars Society wants volunteers for a simulated manned
trip to the Red Planet.
The two-month mission to Devon Island in the Arctic
is planned for next summer.
The society says successful volunteers must be dedicated,
fit and between 18 and 60.
Since 1997 Nasa researchers have been testing the island's
volcanic rocks for life forms that might one day be used to find evidence
of life on Mars.
"Dedication to the cause of human Mars exploration
is an absolute must, as conditions are likely to be tough and the job
will be very trying," the Mars Society says.
It says scientific and engineering skills will help
candidates' applications. The society will pay all training, travel
and living expenses for the expedition.
Its website shows would-be explorers how to apply. The
deadline is November 30.
