Til death did he and his money part. A man
who owned one bowl and one spoon left over $1 million in his
will.
The Michigan bookkeeper often only had half
a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter in his cupboards,
say friends and relatives.
But he left bequests worth £701,459 to
the Community Foundation for Muskegon County and a total of
£70,145 to two churches.
Henry Klooster, a bachelor, wore old clothes
and worn-out shoes and lived in the house where he grew up until
he moved into a nursing home shortly before his death at the
age of 98.
Friend Jim Fles said he "just about fell
over" when he heard about Mr Klooster's posthumous donations.
"He was a millionaire, this guy, and he
never spent a penny of it until he died," Mr Fles said.
