A secretary who applied for a £4,000 loan
from the Halifax has received a cheque for nearly £9 million.
Susan Anderson, from Gloucester, earns £13,000
a year working for an insurance company and wanted to top up
her mortgage to pay off debts.
The Halifax has blamed a computer error.
Ms Anderson, 51, didn't spot the error on the
cheque at first.
She told The Sun: "I just glanced at the
paperwork that came with it and that was for the right amount
so I put the cheque to one side.
"It was only when I looked at it later
that I thought 'that's not right'.
"At first I thought it was for £8,000
- twice what I wanted. Then I looked at it again and realised
there was this huge figure which seemed to go on forever.
"It was actually for £8,957,088.76.
I'd never seen that sort of amount written on a cheque."
She contacted the Halifax and is waiting for
the correct cheque to be sent.
