A woman who escaped from the World Trade Centre
has been reunited with photographs rescued from the rubble.
Judith Francis walked down from the 102nd floor
to reach safety but nearly 200 of her colleagues died.
Her photos were among nearly 500 envelopes retrieved
from Kelly Film Express, in the centre's ground-floor shopping
mall.
They were returned to her by Lt Michael Pappas,
a policeman searching for survivors.
Ms Francis, 39, told the New York Post: "The
fact these photos were found changed everything in terms of
the memories of my friends and the relationships I have with
all the people in the pictures."
Mr Pappas said: "When I saw the photos,
I knew they would be special to someone. It was important they
be saved.
"It was black down there, but near the
photo store it was a fraction lighter and we saw the pictures
in a container inside the store. There was no way we were leaving
them there."
Kelly Film Express owner Allan Tamarkin is trying
to reunite as many envelopes found in the rubble as possible.
"Pictures always have some emotional value
to someone who took them, but in this particular case, they
could be more significant," he said.
