A Dutch grandfather has finally received the Christmas presents
he asked for 74 years ago.
In 1927, Bertje Oosterman wrote to St Nicholas asking for a toy
castle, an indian costume, a bicycle made of chocolate, a canary
and a new cage for his rabbits.
But the letter got lost until last year when it finally turned
up at a car boot sale. The finder has now granted his wishes.
Television producer Jean Olf Lammers bought the letter for £10
at a car boot sale in Antwerp.
"I've been collecting everything to do with St Nicholas for
years," he told Het Belang van Limburg.
He tried to find the boy who wrote it and finally tracked down
Mr Oosterman, now 81, in his antiques shop in Den Haag.
Without telling him why, Mr Lammers invited Mr Oosterman to dinner
in a famous restaurant in Eindhoven where he offered him all the
presents he had asked for.
And the old man blushed when he was told: "You know, Santa
doesn't forget anything."
