A 75-year-old Derbyshire man has received a letter from his hospital
telling him he is pregnant.
Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital wrote to Cyril
Pacey saying he could not be admitted for his planned operation
because of his condition.
Mr Pacey wasn't expecting surgery either. The hospital has apologised.
The pensioner joked: "I phoned everybody to see who the father
was!"
Cyril, of Bolsover in Derbyshire, was treated last year for a hereditary
condition which prevents him straightening his fingers.
Clerical error is thought to be behind the hospital's slip-up.
Ex-railway worker Cyril told The Sun: "At least it gave me
a laugh. And it could certainly be a novel way to get the waiting
list down.
"But to be fair, the hospital was very good to me last year.
So I'm sure they would have had me in straight away if the news
was true!"
A hospital spokeswoman said: "We apologise. We do have blips
on the computer system from time to time."
