A couple in Singapore, married for 47 years and known for their
romantic devotion have died within hours of each other.
Leslie Malcolm Windsor and Gertrude Jane Cork were neighbours who
fell in love when in their 20s during the Second World War and the
Japanese occupation of Singapore.
The couple, who were of British, German and Asian descent, died
within 21 hours of each other this week, the Straits Times reported.
Gertrude, 83, died early Wednesday of pneumonia the paper said,
quoting the couple's three daughters.
Her husband Leslie, 81, succumbed to a heart condition 21 hours
later.
They dated for 10 years before tying the knot and were "inseparable"
in marriage, the paper said.
Gertrude worked as a sales clerk at Robinson's department store
and Leslie was a mechanic - both had kept their first jobs throughout
their lives.
