A Swedish biologist has come up with the ultimate ecological burial
- turning bodies into fertiliser.
Instead of burial or cremation, bodies are freeze-dried into about
30kgs of organic and nutritious powder.
Susanne Wiigh-Masak says her new method allows the dead to fertilise
a plant of his or her choice.
The powder is placed in a box, buried and covered with topsoil,
reports Aftonbladet.
The deceased's selected plant is then planted over the "coffin".
"The plant will then be fertilised by the deceased for many
years. I want to be a white rhododendron," says Mrs. Wiigh-Masak.
The Swedish church has expressed their interest in the new method
and feels it good to be able to offer an alternative and ecological
method of burial.
