A stuntman has announced plans for a charity parachute jump that
he hopes will break up to four world records.
Curtis Rivers, 31, from Nottingham, will make the bid next Saturday
when he takes a dive out of a hot-air balloon in Norfolk.
Mr Rivers, who appeared in hit movies such as James Bond's Tomorrow
Never Dies, will rise to 32,000ft before making the static-line
jump.
This would set a new world record for the highest ever parachute
jump, currently 31,000ft, and beat the existing record for the highest
static-line parachute jump, which stands at 26,000ft.
He also hopes to set a new Guinness world record for the longest
parachute flight, currently 40 minutes and which has remained unbeaten
for 45 years.
The record bid also aims to raise money for the Imperial Cancer
Research Fund by allowing people to place bets on how long Mr Rivers
can stay airborne with the winner receiving a luxury weekend away
and Champagne balloon flight.
Anyone wishing to take part can log on to www.glidetime.co.uk and
can enter the sweepstake with a minimum donation of £1.
Mr Rivers also hopes to break a fourth record for the greatest
distance covered during a parachute jump. He said: "I don't
know if we're going to be able to go for that record because it's
dependant on the weather.
"If the wind speeds are high enough then I might be able to
beat the current military record of 25 miles."
The event is being sponsored by thermal clothing manufacturer Damart,
which is supplying Mr Rivers and his balloon pilot Charlie Limon
with equipment to withstand the sub-zero temperatures at that attitude.
