Restaurants in South Korea are renting out dogs so customers can
enjoy a meal with a pet at their side.
One 'dog cafe' invites diners to choose from 25 different breeds
kept in a pen in the centre of the room.
Customers can also pay for their rent-a-pet to have a bath, grooming
session or gourmet meal.
Cafe owners say foreigners think Koreans only eat dogs but they
are also popular pets.
Jeong Gwang-ho opened the DOG (Dogs are Our Good friends) Cafe
in Ilsan six weeks ago and now claims to have more than 100 customers
a day, reports the Korea Herald.
He said: "I've loved puppies since I was little, so it was
natural for me to start a business where I could be with my dogs.
I trained them all myself.
"Sure, sometimes the dogs fight each other, but they're totally
safe. Even little kids can play with the biggest dogs."
Mr Gwang-ho says he has given up eating dog soup. He said: "Dogs
aren't good for eating, the meat is bad for your intestines. They're
much better for pets."
It costs 4,500 South-Korean Won (£2.40) for a cup of coffee
at DOG Cafe, 10,000 Won (£5.30) for a dog bath and 30,000
Won (£16) for the full pet salon treatment.
