Kindness
Concert Helps Launch First BC Kindness Centre
On Saturday, November 17th a group of Vancouver volunteers
are producing the first World Kindness Concert at the Renaissance Vancouver
Hotel - Harbourside.
This concert will aim to increase awareness of the profound
positive impact of kindness and inspire kind action. In a time of uncertainty,
separation and negative news, this group will use the power of music
and storytelling to touch hearts and make genuine connections. By producing
this concert, these volunteers will look beyond current trends of mistrust,
bullying and violence to reveal that kind acts can make a real difference.
Joining the rapidly growing network of communities and
countries around the world hosting celebrations around World Kindness
Day, this concert is designed to bring people together and acknowledge
that awareness is the first step towards a kinder world. The event will
feature MC Brock Tully and local artists such as Kim Kuzma, Sandy Scofield
and the Unitarian Choir, all representing a variety of cultures and
influences. A five-piece band will back all entertainers. The event
will also feature a multi-media presentation highlighting kindness-related
news and stories from around the world.
Brock Tully, an ambassador for the kindness movement,
recently completed a North American cycling tour spreading goodwill
across the United States and Canada. Reflects Tully, "As more groups
are finding out about each other, a strong kindness network is being
created and the voice of kindness is uniting as a powerful force."
Kindness is becoming a reality here in Vancouver where KindActs' Co-Founder
and Program Director, Nadine Marshall and Team are working to create
the first BC Kindness Centre.
All monies raised by the concert will be donated to
KindActs, a non-profit society aiming to establish a centre in Vancouver,
which will provide programming for businesses, schools, and the community.
Examples
of KindActs Successes:
Cycling for Kindness 2000: An 18,000-kilometer journey
to join and touch hearts around North America... After 205 days on the
road, the Team reached millions of people through over 210 media interviews,
conferences and presentations to schools and businesses.
Ride Kind/Drive Kind: A joint initiative of the Victoria
Kindness Group, ICBC and BC Transit in recognition of the direct relationship
between kindness, courtesy and road safety... Elementary children's
artwork depicting kindness were displayed on over 210 buses and seen
by as many as 70,000 bus riders and an even greater number of auto-drivers
daily.
Kindness to Kolleagues: A proactive program aimed at
countering the increasing and often hidden violence in the workplace...
Coupled with a determination to put the human back in human resources,
this program produced outstanding results including more positive employee
relations, decreased stress claims and an overall sense of a more caring
employer.
The Kindness is Cool Canada Day Parade Float: The youth-focused
Kindness is Cool Team launched a float at the Canada Day Parade in Abbottsford
to raise awareness for kindness. They not only won the hearts of 10,000
spectators but also won first prize in their category and were so well
received that they returned for second run on July 1, 2001.
Tickets are now available for $20.00 each (minimum contribution)
and the event holds seating for 800 attendees. For more information,
please contact Brock Tully at (604) 687-1099. We look forward to seeing
you there! Thanks for your support and kindness.
