BUDDHIST PRANAYAM PRACTICE AS TAUGHT MY THICH NHAT HANH I want to share with you a simple Buddhist Pranayama practice that will help you to cultivate a place of stillness and connection with your Buddha nature and gives you the ability to listen with deeper clarity.  This is the first and most important step in cultivating the soil in which to plant your seeds of intention. So I encourage you to put everything aside and find a comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed.  You can sit or lie down, but you want you spine to be straight, head and neck in line with the spine so that the breath can flow easily. We will begin with Long Deep Breathing.  Long and light, through the nose, remembering that the in breath begins in the belly and moves up the body and the out breath begins at the throat and moves down the body until you empty the belly by pulling the naval point back towards the spine.  As you breathe, contemplate the statements below.  Repeat each statement twice.
  • Breathing in, I am aware that I am breathing in. Breathing out, I am aware that I am breathing out. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of mindfulness in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of mindfulness in me. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of solidity in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of solidity in me. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of wisdom in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of wisdom in me. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of compassion in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of compassion in me. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of peace in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of peace in me. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of freedom in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of freedom in me. • Breathing in, I am in touch with the energy of awakening in every cell of my body. Breathing out, I feel nourished by the energy of awakening in me.
Beautiful.  Inhale deeply, exhale. Allow yourself to notice how you feel, appreciating the stillness that comes with taking the time to breathe and relax.
