Let me tell you a bit about myself and why I chose to become a holistic practitioner.

I’ve had some interesting challenges to overcome in this life.  I was put up for adoption shortly after birth, born with a skeletal deformity that caused me to walk with an exaggerated limp, molested by a family member as a child, raped by the drunk father of the children I was babysitting when I was only 13, bullied by school mates for the way I walked, sexually harassed at work, married to an addict who was emotionally abusive, and labeled a whistle-blower by co-workers when I uncovered a fraud.

I’ve always been a person that needed to know the how’s and why’s of things. I spent many months in hospital as a young person and throughout my adult life as well.  Luckily, I had family doctors, surgeons, nurses, and physiotherapists who appreciated my curiosity and taught me a great deal about how the body works.  This helped me a lot when my formal studies began.

When I was in my early 30’s, and after numerous orthopedic surgeries that didn’t work out as well as everyone hoped, a very gifted and well respected surgeon in Toronto, ON agreed to take me on as a patient.  He constructed a hip socket using bone from my leg and attached it to my pelvis along with steel and titanium joint replacement parts.  Finally, I had no pain and my hips were as close to normal as they would ever be!  I learned to walk all over again, and with the help of a qualified personal trainer, built up physical strength that I never believed possible.

I began to study nutrition to make sure that I was giving my body what it needed as I built up this level of strength.  Proper nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight had been emphasized from my first hip surgery, so I thought that I had a pretty good idea about what to eat. As it turns out, many things I thought I knew were not entirely correct, and there was a great deal about nutrition that I had never been exposed to.

I’ve witnessed people will themselves to die, and I’ve known people whose faith allowed them to live much longer than they were supposed to. I studied psychology and mythology to gain insight into human behavior and eventually learned there was great importance in paying attention to my Spiritual needs as well as my physical and emotional needs.

I know what it feels like to endure emotional and physical pain every minute of every day and be angry because of it.  I know how difficult it is to keep pushing through physical pain to keep moving, and I know the physical effects of denying my true emotions.  I know that fear can cripple you more than your body if you let it, but I also know that there is a road that will lead you to happiness and good health if you are willing to take it.

I became certified in holistic therapeutic counseling and holistic nutrition, so that I could share what I’ve learned from my own experience, and help others find their own road to better health.   I’ve developed and published a step by step emotional wellness program I call Mind Files that offers holistic advice and guidance of how you can turn your life around!  Mind Files explains the mind’s process of collecting, categorizing, and storing conclusions in what I call The Filing Cabinets of Your Mind.  Learn how to review, re-assess and either re-write or resolve completely the files that are holding you back from living the life you were meant to live!

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME

I named my practice after the Greek mythical creature Chiron (pronounced: ky-ron) who was known as a healer, Oracle, and astrologer. Chiron and I have a lot in common.

– My astrological sign is Sagittarius and Chiron resides in this constellation

– I’ve always lived my life my own way – a maverick of a sort and the asteroid Chiron is also called a maverick because it doesn’t move the same way as other planets and asteroids

– In mythology, Chiron was born out of an adulterous relationship then later abandoned by his mother. Chiron was adopted by Apollo who provided him with education in music and medical arts. As it turns out, I learned in my 40’s that the story of how I came to be put up for adoption is surprisingly similar. My adoptive parents gave me piano lessons and my dad introduced me to alternative medicine and nutrition.

– Chiron’s knee was hit with a poison arrow, and despite his medical knowledge and ability to deal with pain – Chiron was unable to heal himself. Chiron was forced to beg Zeus to make him mortal so he could end his suffering. My struggle to accept the limitations of my physical body has definitely been the most difficult life lesson I’ve faced.

As you can see, Chiron and I have a great deal in common!

11 Things About Penny …

 

 

  1.   What was your first moment of ‘beyond 3d normal awakening’?

 

One of my many ‘aha’s’ was years ago when I was doing an English assignment for a University class on Carl Jung’s Synchronicity. It was an analysis of his paper and as I was re-reading it, I wondered what exactly he was seeing in astrological birth charts, so I took it upon myself to investigate. LOL. I began studying astrology and birth charts and did my own chart. It struck me how accurate it was – the life challenges it listed for me was what I had actually lived through! Soon after, I learned I had a half-sister who was born exactly one year after I was – on the same day! I wondered what life lesson our birth mother was supposed to learn that she had two babies born on the same day one year apart.  One she was forced to give up for adoption (me) and the other that she kept. I thought how difficult it must have been being reminded every year on my half-sister’s birthday of the child she had given up.

 

When I met my half-sister in person, I learned that she had endured similar life challenges and at that moment, I realized that regardless of where I grew up, I was going to experience those specific challenges!

 

This reinforced what I always believed to be true – that life is kind of a school for Spirits.

 

  1.   Who is your favourite teacher, book and movie?

Wow…..I have SO many! I’ve learned a lot from so many people who were willing to share their stories. In the self-help category, I would have to say Louise Hay’s book You Can Heal Your Life is my favourite. Louise Hay is a fantastic teacher as well and I learned a lot from her! Another person who really spoke to me was Joseph Campbell. Joseph was the world’s foremost expert on comparative religion!  When I looked around my room at all the books I had accumulated – mythology, philosophy and psychology primarily – his teachings put it all together for me! In his books and lectures I came to understand why I was drawn to all the books that lined my walls! I’m also a huge fan of Carl Jung and have several books written about his teachings as well as his Red Book!

 

My favourite movie……hmmm…..It’s SO hard to pick just one favourite! I love the Lord of The Rings series, the Star Wars series, and I’m a huge fan of all the Avenger movies! Clearly the hero’s journey that Joseph Campbell talks about speaks to me the loudest!!

 

  1.   What’s the strangest experience you’ve ever had?

 

Years ago, I was vacationing with a friend in Jasper National Park here in Alberta, Canada where I live. There is very little ambient light in the Rocky Mountain National Parks so it’s a great place to star gaze! There are all kinds of places along highway 93 that runs between Jasper and Lake Louise that you can pull over and park. During the day these spots give you fantastic mountain views and at night they are perfect for star gazing! My friend has a black mustang and this one night, we pulled over at a spot where you can clearly hear the roar of the Athabasca River.  I’m not sure what happened exactly, but when I stepped out of the car to have a look at the stars, I became very disoriented. It felt as though I had stepped out right into the dark sky itself – like I was floating. I literally had to keep my hand on the car to keep from falling over!

 

  1.   What’s one interesting thing we do not know about you yet?

 

I love music and I love bringing out the inner musician in people! I started out teaching piano in high school and I still have students to this day!

 

  1.   What do you feel your true life purpose to be?

 

I know my true purpose is to teach people how to remove the intellectual and emotional blocks that are holding them back in life. I’ve always known this was my purpose I just didn’t know how I was supposed to go about it! I knew it when I was a teenager but what I didn’t know was that I had lots of life experiences I needed to learn how to overcome before I would be able to fulfill my purpose as it was intended.  I, like a lot of folks, thought you started your life’s purpose right after high school! LOL It doesn’t work that way.

 

  1.   What’s your favourite animal?

 

I love all animals!

 

  1.   What’s your favourite consciousness or energy ‘exercise’ that helps you stay connected, grounded and ‘tuned in’ in a good way?

 

I head out into the mountains and go for a walk in the forest.  There are several places close to Calgary where I like to go and when I really need a big charge, I’ll drive all the way to Jasper!!

 

  1.   What’s your favourite music / song / musical artist?

 

I love Bon Jovi! I’ve been a huge fan for years! Keep The Faith is still – to this very day – my all time favourite song!!

 

  1.   What’s your favourite food?

 

Turkey dinner! I’ve had to forgo the stuffing now that I’ve learned that my body is sensitive to gluten, but I still enjoy a good turkey dinner! I also like to make soup from the carcass!

 

  1. What excites your creative juices?

 

I love teaching people so coming up with lots of different ways – memes, videos and blog posts for example – to get an idea across allows my creative juices to flow!! Music is another way I like to unleash those creative abilities!

 

  1. What’s the one thing you’d like to “shamelessly self promote” here today?

 

My book – Mind Files: Perception, Perspective & Problems!
