Groves of Zen with Jenny & Mary

Groves of Zen at 4PM Pacific on the 4th Friday of the Month

Meet Us

Having each lost our spouses at a young age, we met while volunteering for an organization that supports the widowed community all across the world. We became fast friends, and dreamed of creating a space for people to connect over the comfort and understanding that various holistic and energetic practices can bring into our lives. Many hours of phone calls, studying, and certifications later, the Groves of Zen was born.

Jenny Sellers

My journey with the energetic realms began after the sudden death of my fiance in 2014. In an instant, what I believed about the world and our role in it shifted dramatically and I began searching for answers. Without any clue as to what caused his death, I skeptically began seeking out mediums who could connect with his spirit to answer some of our questions. Through my many experiences, it became quite clear that people actually do have the ability to connect with others who have passed; thus began my journey into the energetic and spiritual worlds, where I was shocked to find a common theme – that we all have the ability to connect to the energy that surrounds us…we’ve just turned it off over time.

Taking a deep dive into the energetic world and our connection to it, I stumbled into the comfort, peace, and joy that comes from ancient healing modalities such as Reiki and DNA Activation. I fell in love with working with the Angels, Archangels, and Ascended Masters, and it’s my honor to bring all of this to you here in the Groves of Zen.

Mary Hughes

Mary is an RN Certified Aromatherapist. She obtained her Registered Nurse and Public Health Nurse license, as well as her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree in 2003. With a calling to teach she received her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2012 with an emphasis in Nursing Education.

Mary always had a sense there was more, more to medicine and more to the well being of her patients. During her many years as a hospice nurse, she witnessed first hand the power of comfort and healing using non traditional types of treatments. In her education studies she continued to pursue the elements of alternative treatments. After the sudden death of her husband in 2010, leaving her broken and the mother of 2 small boys, her perspective changed. She sought out not only physical well being, but universal well being and the importance of being happy. This drive opened a new world of toxin free living. Enter…essential oils and energy healing modalities. Her love of all things natural grew into a love of product creation, as well as substituting as many natural products as possible with anything synthetic, especially medications. She became a certified nurse aromatherapist in 2020 through the Integrative Aromatherapy Certification Program as well as a certified Reiki Practitioner.

Supporting your spiritual, emotional, and physical bodies at the same time is what we’re all about here at the Groves of Zen…
We do that by providing a safe space to learn about that which we can’t physically see, hear, touch, smell, or taste. We LOVE supporting people as they scratch the surface of spirituality by allowing a safe space to explore the question of, “What if this is all real?” for themselves. Offering Angel and Tarot card readings, Aromatherapy consults, distance Reiki sessions for humans and pets, DNA Activation services, and online events aimed at holding a safe space to explore the spiritual gifts that are your birthright, the Groves are a place to find balance between your emotional, physical, and spiritual bodies.
Explore the Groves online at, or come hang with us in our private Facebook Group where we chat about the energy of the week and an essential oil tool to support you through it all at
We would also be honored to work with you. Schedule a session with us online at Our clients become our friends, and we are grateful for their words of kindness about their experiences:
“I was lucky to have a friend who knows just what a girl needs. She connected me with Jenny and I am so grateful. Her insight and knowledge was absolutely fascinating and intriguing.  I will now incorporate my guiding angels into my daily meditations.  I look forward to meeting again! Thank you for sharing your passion with me!”
“I had a session with Mary, the nurse aromatherapist regarding some issues I was having. She discussed my medical situation and current medications so there was not a conflict with the oil she would recommend.  Mary determined that a roller would be best for me and will mix the oils for my specific use.  Thank you, Mary for your thoughtful service. Mary also provided me with a Reiki session providing a wonderful night’s sleep.”
“Thank you Jenny Sellers for another amazing card reading. This time I chose an Angel card reading. It was so informative and enjoyable as was my previous Tarot card reading.”
“I had a Reiki session last night. I wanted to post a follow-up for anyone who is contemplating doing a Reiki session. It was pretty special and I woke up this morning feeling the benefits. I feel energized, and in tune with mind, body, and spirit.  Anyone questioning whether or not to partake in Reiki, all I can say is I highly recommend it. Looking forward to checking out the other Groves soon. 💕
“I just had an Angel Card reading over Zoom, and it was really cool. I’ll be gifting some readings to friends and family since you don’t need to be local to partake. Thank you Groves of Zen!”

11 Things about Jenny & Mary …

  1. What was your first moment of ‘beyond 3d normal awakening’? I’ll own it – I was a HUGE skeptic of energy work and the spiritual industry, so my first moments came later in life. I used to believe that there was nothing after life, but after the death of my fiance, Coll, I was feeling his energy in ways that couldn’t be explained. I decided to throw caution to the wind by giving myself one year to explore the question of, “What if this spiritual/energy work stuff is real?” That year became transformative for me, and it led me to London to partake in the Certified Angel Guide Live course that was being taught for the first time in person by Kyle Gray. While there, we were guided into a meditation to meet our Guardian Angel. During this meditation I was instantly drawn under the ocean where Coll met me underwater (this was incredibly uncomfortable for me because Coll had drowned four years prior). He then led me down into a cave at the bottom of the ocean, where he motioned for me to enter while he waited outside. When I entered the cave, I met Amber, my Guardian Angel, who was the fiercest, most beautiful being of love I’ve ever encountered. I left the cave knowing that my question had been answered – this WAS real and all I had to do was open my heart to allow it in – and was given the most beautiful gift in the process…the knowledge that Coll was a guide for me in all of this and that he truly is still present in my life.

This whole event happened while I was in a room with 150 other people across the span of maybe 5 minutes. To me, the experience felt like it was a solid half hour. It was an exercise in trust and being comfortable in the uncomfortable. It was an exercise in love, being reunited with my lost love and my Guardian Angel. It was an exercise in learning, letting go of my physical body and going with the flow wherever it took me. It was a gift, and one for which I will always be grateful.

  2. Who is your favourite teacher, book and movie? Here in the physical, my favorite teacher would have to be Kyle Gray for the down-to-Earth nature of his angelic teachings. Had it not been for him, I likely would have still been clinging to the logical side of my brain telling me there’s no way any of this is real. Spiritually, my favorite teachers would be my own personal team of Angels and Guides. Amber, my Guardian Angel; Avalon, the Groves of Zen’s Spirit Guide; and Coll, my late fiance. Each support me in unique and countless ways, guiding me forward when I can’t see the clear path for myself. My favorite book is Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay – it’s a beautiful fictional novel that highlights the importance of storytelling and of honoring your ancestry. My favorite movie is Love Actually for the way that it highlights all of the different types of love that exist all around us.
  3. What’s the strangest experience you’ve ever had? When the phone call came to alert me that there had been an accident at Coll’s work, I was in the middle of a guided meditation in preparation for sleep (he worked nights). When the phone rang, it automatically put the meditation on pause. It was an incredibly traumatizing phone call – being told to rush to the hospital because your fiance may not be breathing – and because the meditation was paused during the call, when I hung up the phone the meditation automatically turned back on. Here I was, not knowing if the other half of my heart was breathing, and all my phone was telling me was to, “Focus on the breath. Breathe in….breathe out…” In my frantic state I couldn’t figure out how to turn the meditation off, and knowing that I wasn’t going to be able to drive myself to the hospital I called a dear friend to come pick me up. Being late at night, I had to call her five different times before she picked up. In between each of them, the meditation kicked back on, reminding me to breathe. At the time it was a cruel joke (and meditation for me was a trauma activator for several years). Now, it’s kind of amazing to me that I was gifted such an important reminder at the time when I needed it most.
  4. What’s one interesting thing we do not know about you yet? I’m a certified DNA Activation Practitioner. DNA Activation is a powerful and ancient healing modality that dates back to the times of Isis whereby we restore and activate your cosmic and spiritual strands of DNA. This has many benefits which include being more easily able to distinguish between the voice of your higher self and your ego, restoring energy flow to the body, being able to get out of your own way, and feeling more connected to your spiritual gifts. It’s a beautiful healing modality, that is performed higher self to higher self, and it’s one that I am honored to help provide for people anywhere in the world.
  5. What do you feel your true life purpose to be? Providing community and bringing people together, be it in the widowed world or the spiritual world. I absolutely love creating safe spaces for people to heal, learn, and grow together. On the spiritual side, my goals and wishes are to create a safe space for people who find themselves in the same place I was – that space of not knowing what’s real and just needing something meaningful to hold on to that can form the foundation of further exploration. That’s what the Groves is – the safe space where you can have your own experience, ask questions, and learn more about what you’ve experienced.
  6. What’s your favourite animal? Sea lions. I used to work with them many moons ago.
  7. What’s your favourite consciousness or energy ‘exercise’ that helps you stay connected, grounded and ‘tuned in’ in a good way? Gaia has gifted us with the beautiful gift of essential oils. No matter what I’m facing – be it physical, emotional, or spiritual – I can always return to the body and find my footing again with perfectly crafted essential oil blends in the diffuser or in a roller for use on the body. Without fail, these gifts take me out of whatever is happening around me and help me to feel grounded, rooted, and held safely.
  8. What’s your favourite music / song / musical artist? This one’s tough, as music is written on my soul. My favorite songs include Wait for It from Hamilton, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, Let it Be by the Beetles, Imagine by John Lennon, Drive by Incubus, anything by Linkin Park, and Use Somebody by Kings of Leon.
  9. What’s your favourite food? Pizza. Hands down.
  10. What excites your creative juices? I love journaling. Writing has always been a part of my life, and it helps me sort through the messiness of life. I also love pouring my creative heart into the Groves of Zen – providing this safe space for our community is a true joy.
  11. What’s the one thing you’d like to “shamelessly self promote” here today? If you’re looking for a place to ask your spiritual questions, join us at the Groves of Zen’s private Facebook group ( We talk each week about the energy of the week and an essential oil tool that you can use to support you through it. We are always happy to be the space where you can ask questions about your spiritual journey and to provide insight on the questions you might not know where else to ask. You will never be met with judgement there – only support and love.If you’d like to work with us via one of our Angel Card, Aromatherapy, DNA Activation, Reiki, or Tarot Card services, we would love to work with you, too. 🙂 Schedule a service online at
  1. What was your first moment of ‘beyond 3d normal awakening’?

I have been a nurse for almost 20 years, particularly a hospice nurse for 15 of those. I have been honored to be at the side of many people as they transitioned from this world to the next. I have seen and have had countless experiences during this time of transition to know just how real and thin the veil is between us and them. I have seen 100’s of peoples’ ancestors come for them during this transition and witnessed their recognition first hand. This was further reinforced after the sudden death of my husband of 17 years, when I was only 36 and I felt his presence and support ever since, along with my angels, ancestors, and the divine.

  1. Who is your favourite teacher, book and movie?

My favorite movie is Eat, Pray, Love…I dream of being able to take an extended amount of time to travel, eat delicious food, have time to meditate, and meet and understand cultures from all over the world. My favorite books would be the Harry Potter series and Mary Magdalene: Reveled.

  1. What’s the strangest experience you’ve ever had?

The strangest experience I have ever had was receiving a phone call and voicemail from my late husband about 2 years after his death on my cell phone. I could only make out the words “I Love You”. It was strange and wonderful all at the same time.

  1. What’s your favourite consciousness or energy ‘exercise’ that helps you stay connected, grounded and ‘tuned in’ in a good way?

Everyday I start my day with a reading, drawing a card, and doing a meditation exercise. It is a great way to greet whatever the day may bring and grounds me to the physical while reinforcing the support I have spiritually.

  1. What’s your favourite music / song / musical artist?

My favorite song is “Lonely” by Pepper. It got me through some really tough and dark days after my husband died. I love a wide variety of music from Sinatra to alternative, anything that makes me happy.
