LUNCH HALL LIFE SAVER Incredible moment schoolboy launches into action and saves choking pal with Heimlich manoeuvre
Boy started choking after laughing at joke but soon began turning purple until his quick-thinking friend saved him using first aid training learnt on police course.
GRIPPING footage caught the moment a schoolboy rushed into action to save his classmate’s life after he began choking in the school canteen.
The pupil’s incredibly quick-thinking was caught on CCTV and shows him rushing round the lunch table and putting his arms round the choking boy’s waist.
After a few attempts using the Heimlich manoeuvre he manages to dislodge the blocking item and allow his friend to breathe again at the high school in Wisconsin, USA.
Will Olson, who seconds earlier was joking with his friends, was saved by classmate Ian Brown who quickly recognised he was in terrible danger.
Ian was able to execute the Heimlich manoeuvre after being given first aid training as part of a programme offered by the local police department in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to youngsters with an interest in law enforcement.

The frightening scene unfolded at the town’s Central High School on Wednesday and the school’s nurse said that the training Ian had been given by the Police Explorer course helped stop a “very dangerous situation”.
Speaking to WEAU 13 News after the incident, Will said: “Someone cracked a really funny joke and I just took a deep breath in and that’s when I started to choke.
“I felt scared, I thought I actually could possibly die, and when I saw Ian actually get up and start doing the Heimlich, I felt better, I felt safer.”
