“I can’t call it anything more than just a blessing,” Anissa Williams said.

To see Williams, you would never imagine she was near death just one month ago.

“I was completely impaled,” Williams said. “It came out of my back, through my driver’s seat, through my back seat, and into the trunk of my car.”

Williams does not remember much before the crash. WOWT 6 News was there as Williams was rushed to the hospital. She said she nodded off behind the wheel on January 30.

“The next thing I know, I’m plowing into a chain link fence and toward someone’s home,” Williams said.

Her car went back into the street near 68th & Maple. Not only did the pole go through her chest, she lost part of a finger. It is a crash that could have killed her. Instead, she recovered faster than expected.

“Once I knew I was going to live, it was like alright, let’s get on, let’s fight,” Williams said.

Doctors thought she would need to be in the hospital for at least three weeks, but she was released in less than two.

“No one would expect that she would be where she is and be as healthy as she is so soon,” Tony Sanders said.

Sanders, Williams’ pastor, had been there every step of the way. He is still in awe.

“It’s a miracle to see her progress so quickly,” Sanders said.

Now, as Williams continues her recovery at home, she is prepared for a new lease on life.

“The things that you thought were so important and were so concerned about, you find that list gets drastically shortened,” Williams said.

While Williams still cannot work during her recovery right now, she said she is now ready to pursue a career in counseling. It is a dream she had long before January’s crash.
